The Ultimate Guide to Eating Plant Based in London

The Ultimate Guide to Eating Plant Based in London

After spending 8 days traveling to London and eating some of the best plant-based foods, I had to share mt favorites.I had some of the best plant based meals in London, with the most flavorful and creative meals. As someone who religiously checks menus beforehand, I was not disappointed with my picks! This is the ultimate list you need to locate your next plant based meal in London.

Temple of Seitan

43 Parkway
London
NW1 7PN
England

Starting off strong, was our first the trip, Temple of Seitan. Located in Camden, you will find yourself at an unassuming building, inside is an incredible meal waiting for you.

My husband and I shared the BBQ chick’n burger, 2 piece classic tenders and fries.

I highly recommend getting a pot of sauce to go with the fries and strips! From time to time, I do crave ‘meat like’ meals and this did not disappoint!

If you find yourself near Camden, do not skip!

Purezza

45-47 Parkway
London
NW1 7PN
England

One of the best vegan pizza’s I’ve ever had, is featured at Purezza. Located in the heart of Camden, don’t pass this place up. The crust was so fluffy, light and crispy. The chef at Purezza has vegan pizza figured out! My husband and I split the Caesar salad, and the Norcina pizza. This pizza featured leeks, sausage and a creamy sauce. Truly spectacular!

I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture, BUT! Try the tiramisu, it was so good and you couldn’t even tell it was vegan!

Jam Delish

1 Tolpuddle Street
London
N1 0XT
England

Located near Islington, Jam Delish should be on everyone’s list. The Caribbean cuisine was impeccable. The flavors were out of this world and so inspired. The restaurant was packed on a weeknight and that should tell you everything you need to know!

We ordered the Ultimate Feast. Only the word Wow comes to mind when I think of this meal! I recommend this if you are unsure of what to order.

This includes Caribbean Fried “Chicken”, Jerk “Chicken” Skewers, Mac & Cheese, Plantain Fries, Jollof Rice, Mini Festivals, Caribbean Slaw, and Leafy Green Salad. Finished with Jamaican Gravy, Jerk BBQ Sauce, and Pineapple, Mango & Scotch Bonnet Sauce.

Don’t forget to finish with the caramelized banana cake!

Dishoom

4 Derry Street
London
W8 5SE
England

When it comes to Indian cuisine, I am always ready to eat. Dishoom came highly recommended. With 12 locations in the UK you are sure to find one near you! We went to the location in Kensington.

With any great Indian restaurant, a must have is a lassi. We started with a mango and fennel lassi and a raspberry super-lassi.

They were both spectacular!

If there was one food item I could eat for the rest of time, it would be a vegetable samosa. This was incredible, it was the perfect balance of spices with more cinnamon flavor, which I loved.

We also tried the Dishoom house Chaat, which our server recommended. It was a perfect balance of sweet and tangy, this was a fried sweet potato covered in yogurt, with pomegranate, beetroot, radish and carrot on top. It also featured a tamarind and green chutney.

For our main course we split the house black daal with roomali roti.

We also had the chili broccoli salad. This was a cold dish, with broccoli, toasted pistachios, mint leaves, red chilies, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and finished with lime. This dish was so bright and flavorful.

I can’t emphasize how great the daal was! The flavors blended so well together and mixed with the roti, it was divine. This meal was one I haven’t stopped dreaming of.

Bun house

26-27 Lisle Street
London
WC2H 7BA
England

Tucked away in Chinatown, Bun House was a standout. Serving only bao buns with a few additional menu items, this is a must try. My husband eats some meat so this was able to accommodate both of our eating habits.

We were lucky enough to get a table and the vibe was great. This restaurant has two floors, a place for takeaway with some seating, then an upstairs with more seating. To start we split the suoyi cucumber with soy vinaigrette. I had a veg bun, my husband had a chick bun, and we split a custard bun!

We loved this so much we came back another day and got more buns!

Gauthier

21 Romilly Street
London
W1D 5AF
England

If you are looking for a tasting that will last several hours with some of the most creative vegan food, you need to go to Gauthier. Located in Soho, this was one of the meals I was looking forward to the most. With a 10 course menu you won’t be leaving hungry.

One of the best parts of eating plant based is the creativity found in the kitchen. This meal was no exception. Every season the menu changes based on what is the most fresh. This meal was exceptional and the best part was that it was fully vegan, down to the goat cheese!

Spread Eagle

141 Albert Street
London
NW1 7NB
England

Located in Camden, this charming bar is one you don’t want to miss! One of the most important meals I wanted to try in London was a traditional Sunday roast. However, I don’t eat any meat so this was a well researched meal!

Spread Eagle featured a fully vegan roast as well as a meat option for my husband. I was delightfully surprised at how much I enjoyed this! We also couldn’t resist a pint to make the meal well rounded. Each roast features garlic & herb roast potatoes, double egg Yorkshire pudding, maple roasted carrots, cauliflower puree, hispi cabbage, and of course gravy.

The Blackfriar

174 Queen Victoria Street
London
EC4V 4EG
England

After a full morning of walking around London, a fresh pint of beer is in order. There is no better place to go than The Blackfriar. This historic pub was built in 1875 then remodeled in 1905, and is full of charm. The food was a perfect bonus to our afternoon! I was so happy to find a pub that accommodated a plant based diet and had some incredible options. They are known for their pies and they live up to that hype.

Mildred’s

79 Saint Martin’s Lane
London
WC2N 4AA
England

Mildred’s is a meal I had been looking forward to and came highly recommended. With 5 locations in London you’re sure to be near one. We went to the Covent Garden location. As someone who loves creative plant based food, this was a hit!

We started with the coconut corn ribs, fabulous! Then I had the kiri hodi pilau, a shri lanken curry, full of bright flavors and delious. My husband had the Korean fried chick+n burger and it was really tasty.

The dessert menu is not one to be missed! We shared the warm cookie dough blondie, which came with a side of chocolate sauce to pour over top.

Unity Diner

60 Wentworth St
Spitalfields
London
E1 7AL
England

Located in White Chapel, Unity Diner was bound to be my #1 recommendation. Their creative menu features all types of plant based takes on traditional ‘meat’ foods. I looked forward to this meal all week!

We started with the Peri Peri Chicken Skewers and the Mooli Skewers. They were unreal! I couldn’t believe how close to chicken these plant based ‘chicken’ tasted.

We split the Lion’s Mane Steak as our main dish and wow. You couldn’t even taste that this was actually a mushroom at all. The flavors were also so close to that of a real steak, I was shocked. I also couldn’t resist to have the Döner loaded fries! Everything was incredible and I wish I could go back!

Even though I was absolutely too full, I couldn’t resist this Raspberry Gin Cheesecake! It was so tasty and look at the presentation!

Tendril

Tendril Kitchen & Bar
5 Princes Street
(Oxford Circus)
London
W1B 2LQ

If you find yourself in the Mayfair/Soho area, please do yourself a favor and eat at Tendril! They are A (mostly) Vegan Kitchen and Bar. So you will be able to find some fully vegan items as well as some vegetarian options. This meal is home to the best gnocchi I’ve ever had. We got the discovery dinner set menu and we were not disappointed!

Final Thoughts

There are so many great plant based options in London. It was actually so hard to narrow down a list of places to eat and I was so sad there were some options I didn’t get to try. If you find yourself in London and try these, let me know what you think!
